« Goodbye, Gilligan | Main| Bad Ol' Leroy Jenkins »
We have some banners on our building that celebrate our ‘we hate sheep’ positioning. We put ‘em up for our grand opening party and just haven’t ever quite gotten back to having them taken down. Plus, we figure they help drive a little curiousity about the soon-to-be-redesigned wehatesheep.com. Now, our fading banners have been immortalized. The backstory here is that our office is in an up-and-coming art district. There has been a smidge of resentment about the overall gentrification of the area (although our original KC office was in this neighborhood years before this neighborhood was officially hot). Still, as you can see in this cartoon (click for a closer look) from a local cartoonist for KC's alternative newspaper, the local art scene folks really aren't drinking our kool-aid. Pretty funny, though.
New thought: was that damn kitten the original viral?

Everything I need to know about advertising I learned from Star Wars
I don't imagine KCMO's beret-waering art scene folks are busy contracting for SHS services. Although, I'm willing to bet they would be open to an offer to use their particular services in a commercial effort.
Seriously, the idea of "selling out" is arcane. We all exist in a commercially saturated world. Drawing invisible lines around what's art and what's commerce is an exercise in futility.
If art is for sale, it's commerce.

I hear you. David. And I agree. Though, in this case, I think Josh's intent was to fun us a little about not being quite as hip as we think we are. The fact that I just downloaded John Denver's Greatest Hits surely doesn't help our case.

Can we please put giant Hang In There signs up now!?! Oh my, that would rock.

I think the original viral was the "Every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten" picture.
Coincidentally, it's also my vote for our next building banner. THAT would rock.

Put that kitty banner on our building. PLEASE. Just for one week. That's all it would take.

You should put up a Ziegler banner. That would be Rovian, huh?

John Denver, huh? Hmmm....
Maybe the soul patch crew is right to get on your case.
