Jigsaw leaves us with engagement blue balls™

The Saw franchise is horrifically scary and fun. So, when I stumbled upon the Saw III trailer on YouTube, I had to watch. And, until the end, I was thinking they'd nailed it. The Jigsaw Killer's puppet, Billy, was going to give us our own puzzle to solve. Now we were a "subject." Watch the trailer, and you'll see that Jigsaw lets us off the hook (pun intended) way too easily. There was an opportunity to here to make the "puzzle" at the end worthy of Jigsaw's sick genius but, in the immortal words of Ralphie, it was just a crappy commercial. I was ready to be engaged, but I was left hanging with a case of engagement blue balls™.

For years, we've heard "Don't make it too hard for the consumer." Maybe that's true in an interruptive model. However, if you're going to create something that operates on active engagement, like a special YouTube trailer, then you have to be ready to take advantage of the extra attention you've garnered. I certainly would have made my way to a special Web site to match wits with Jigsaw. And what if my prize for doing so wasn't just my life, but an incentive at the theater i.e. a $1 off a popcorn with my Saw ticket?

Hey guys, when it's time to promote for Saw IV, give us a shout.

Be sure to watch Saw III. Saw III? A crummy commercial?

Son of a bitch!

Most excellent Corey. You work in comments the way some artists might work in oils or clay.

Yes! I comment like a deranged Easter Bunny! Like a pink nightmare!

I liked the first Saw, but I still get weirded out with that Princess Leia-cinnabon ear thing mask.

10.27.06 - what could that possibly mean?
