No, no, no, no, no, no. Hey Tootsie Roll people, you have one of the most iconic and beloved spots ever created. Don't screw with it. Seriously.

Does everything have to be computer generated these days? Why not just run the original commercial instead of doing a CD update?
How many kids these days are wearing hair styles and clothes from the 70s? You cant tell me the original com... [Read More]

Everything I need to know about advertising I learned from Star Wars
Now, that's just sad.

Couldn't they just re-draw it to look less 70s? Why does everything these days have to be creepy 3D renders.

A horrible injustice. At least they didn't try to answer the question.

Ugh these animations are so scary. They look like balloons that are about to burst... or maybe even, POP!

PS - I always loved how Mr. Owl says "tw-ho!"

I don't see the problem. Guess I wasn't here when whatever is being defiled ran originally.
Maybe this is intended for kids without that memory. So all you nice people here with fond memories will have to accept that you no longer matter to the Tootsie Roll people.

Not only did they wreck a classic, they did it on the cheap. Idiots. Why not Crispin the shit out of that thing and bring some dead guy back to life to make it uber-creepy?
ooooh. Is "to Crispin" a verb now?

Ryan, "..a thrrree..."
Pat, you are a blasphemer. Search YouTube and be enlightened.
James...you have indeed invented a new verb. Gold star.

What's next? Standard Improvement Company redoing they're classic "call Westport-1-7100" ad in IMAX? Yeah, that comment is just for people over 30 who grew up in KC.
As far as this monstrosity, well, they should have just ran the original. If they wanted to update the schtick, they could've done a where-are-they-now, Christopher Guest-directed campaign. I mean, I just thought of that while watching a genital herpes ad. See, advertising isn't that hard, folks.

how sad... it seems like the goal was to "modernize" the spot, but this animation doesn't look modern at all. it looks like some bad mid 90s student work. i can think of a million animators/illustrators who could've done a better job recreating this concept. my industry faith-meter just fell another point. i wonder if it was the creatives' fault or the client's?
