BBDO reimagines A Christmas Story for Cingular. I don't know if it will win a "major award," but the faithful recreations are fun.

Everything I need to know about advertising I learned from Star Wars
I LOVED this commercial over the weekend. Good stuff.

It was funny, alright. But I think they missed an opportunity to take it a bit deeper.
It was a chuckle, but it could have been a gut buster.

I hate it, not just because I'm a fan of the original, but because I think the product doesn't match the application. Cell phones? I think this was someone wanting to use ACS because it sounded like a good idea, not because it helped his/her client's brand/message.

Would have been better with a twist -- 'Ralphie' is actually a balding, 30-something shlub who still lives at home. At least the cell phone would give him a modicum of independence (which kinda was movie Ralphie's underlying motive to begin with...)

Here in Cleveland, The Christmas Story is sacrosanct. It was filmed here and the house has actually been made into a museum.
I don't like these spots. It seems akin to altering lyrics to a Christmas song. Plus, the santa and the elf aren't even close to as creepy as the original.
Bah humbug, I guess.
